Zarana in G.I. Joe: The Movie

"How tepid can Hasbro get with this movie, sister?"
"Oh, pretty fucking tepid, brother!"

The production histories of Transformers:  The Movie and G.I. Joe:  The Movie were deeply intertwined, and the choices Hasbro made on one film directly reshaped the other.

Several key pieces of this history ... especially around Duke's death, the Optimus Prime backlash, and the late‑stage audio change.  I am more interested in the Zarana factor, but to make sense of this all, I do have to somewhat touch on other factors.

This might be a bit NSFW under the jump, so read at your own risk.  And knowing is half the battle!  Yo Joe!

Beachhead and The Rawhides

G.I. Joe's strength lay in its ability to deploy the right specialist at the right time.

The MASS Device mini-series was a perfect illustration of how G.I. Joe operated as a modular, cross-specialty task force.  When Stalker said, "None of us know diddly squat about deep sea diving."  That was the opening for Torpedo to take the lead.

"What do I have to do with Beachhead, the
Rawhides?  I guess I'm all wet!  hahaha!"

G.I. Joe had to have elite operatives for every scenario in defense against Cobra's global terrorism.  Recondo, deep jungle.  Snow Job, the Arctic.  Shipwreck, sea.  Ace, air.  Dusty, desert.  And so on.  And also, just plenty of army infantrymen.
