We have the iconic scene of Cobra Commander unmasked, eating.
There was also the reverse Pepé Le Pew plot-loop with Cover Girl tracking down Shipwreck in a sleazy bar.
We also saw Cover Girl's skills with makeup, and how she could be a foil/enemy for Zartan, actually. That's good play pattern teaching by the cartoon.
Oddballs and Weirdos:
Duke "wanted all of the odd balls out of his hair for a couple of weeks," Shipwreck explained, so these are what Hollywood got as consultants for the movie they are making. LOL
Oddball Rundown: Mutt (and Junkyard), Blowtorch, Recondo, Dusty, Cover Girl, and Shipwreck.
dog handler, flamethrower trooper, jungle trooper, desert trooper, tank/armor, sailor
These were all "support" Joes and won't be missed for a couple of weeks, frankly, as they were useful in specialized circumstances. As a child, I misremembered Shipwreck's line as "oddballs and weirdos," but it was just oddballs.
I imagine Duke sent Cover Girl to maintain command (*cough cough* babysitting duty).
Shipwreck's description of them all as "oddballs out of his hair" was an unflattering, but arguably accurate, summary of the group's reputation? Hmm
Certainly, it's a self-deprecating comment that reflected Shipwreck's own boisterous personality and his self-awareness of how he was perceived by Duke, the G.I. Joe commander. The others had to be thinking, "Speak for yourself, Shipwreck." LOL
The Movie Premiere and Shipwreck's Fury:
The episode ended with the group at the premiere for The G.I. Joe Story; the Joes looked dapper in tuxedoes, expecting to be recognized for their heroics/consulting on the movie.
Because Cobra attempted to recover a Firebat, the movie director, George Landsberg, captured all the real action and explosions on film, giving him the "authentic" battle scene he wanted for his movie.
Instead, he thanked only his parents for their inspiration. LOL
An enraged Shipwreck has to be held back by the other Joes as he threatened to "murderlize the bum." LOL
4 out of 4 star episode (even though this post isn't meant to function as a review)
Yo Joe! Yo Meme:
The writer's guide made it clear, and the show itself made it clear. The Joes were people first. They did have an interest in the opposite sex. This was a plum assignment for the male Joes: work on a movie, enjoy the high life, maybe hook up with some Hollywood chicks while out there.
But I'm sorry, Cover Girl, with those men at the end of the episode, it was all rather humorous.
G.I. Joe – Battle Files Sourcebook itself showed something, again, I am sorry, Cover Girl, but it is hard to deny. Cover Girl was doing the White Couch meme!
Shipwreck, Blowtorch, Dusty, Redondo, and Mutt were ready for the after-party. Cover Girl was, too. She came from Hollywood, after all.
She's about 5' 11'' surrounded by larger Joes. Umm, yeah. LOL
Posing center, as Cover Girl was the shortest, the only woman, made sense, but then it naturally put that meme out there. Sunbow, way back in the '80s, couldn't know that the White Couch meme would become a thing.
In the in-verse Sunbow context, Cover Girl wouldn't realize the unintended consequences of such a photo until it was too late.
Cover Girl would feel deeply embarrassed once she understood the situation, as it was true that once something has been "seen," it cannot be "unseen." The last thing Cover Girl would want is to be "framed" in a way the guys had not anticipated, and they couldn't "un-consider" that perspective once it's out there.
Cover Girl would be mortified and cringe at the meme. But sometimes a little embarrassment does anyone some good. "Not another word," I can imagine her saying to them as they returned to the hotel they were staying at. It's good, in any case, to learn to laugh at yourself in life, anyway.
... and then dragging Shipwreck into her hotel room before they go home, while making him promise to keep it to himself. LOL
